LIP FILLER AFTER CARE
So you’ve taken the plunge and gotten lip fillers—congrats! Whether you opted for a subtle enhancement or a plumper pout, aftercare is key to making sure your results look amazing and last as long as possible.
Here's everything you need to know to care for your lips post-treatment and avoid common mistakes.
1. Expect Some Swelling (and Maybe a Bruise or Two)
Swelling and mild bruising are completely normal after lip filler injections. This usually peaks within the first 24–48 hours and starts to go down after 2–3 days. Ice packs (gently applied!) and sleeping with your head slightly elevated can help reduce swelling.
2. Skip the Gym (Just for a Day or Two)
Exercise increases blood flow and may worsen swelling or bruising. It’s best to take a break from intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours after your treatment.
3. Hands Off!
Avoid massaging, pressing, or rubbing your lips. You want the filler to settle naturally into place—so resist the urge to touch or poke!
4. Avoid Heat & Alcohol
Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or even very hot showers for a day or two. Also skip alcohol for at least 24 hours—both heat and alcohol can make swelling and bruising worse.
5. Keep It Clean & Minimal
No makeup on or around your lips for the rest of the day. This helps prevent any risk of infection at the injection sites. Stick to gentle cleansers and balms only.
6. Hydration Is Key
Hydrated lips = happy filler. Drink plenty of water and use a non-irritating lip balm. Bonus: hydrated filler often looks smoother and more pillowy.
7. Be Patient
You’ll see some immediate changes after treatment, but final results typically settle within 7–10 days. Don’t panic if your lips look uneven in the first few days—swelling can be asymmetrical and usually balances out.
8. Know When to Call Your Provider
If you experience significant pain, white patches, or anything that feels off—contact your provider. Complications are rare but best caught early.
