DERMAL FILLERS
Most dermal fillers (e.g. Juvederm, Restylane) are made of hyaluronic acid gel and are a key component in facial rejuvenation and enhancement. Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound that exists normally in our skin. Dermal fillers contain a higher density, so-called cross-linked, hyaluronic acid and that’s why they are so powerful in restoring volume.
Dermal fillers come in different compositions and have slightly different consistencies depending on what area you want to treat and what effect you want to achieve.
Our Plastic Surgeons and nurse injectors at Inside Beauty have years of experience using dermal fillers for all areas of the face. A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is vital to get the best results and minimize any adverse effects.

What areas can be treated and enhanced with fillers?
Fillers are used to add volume and treat static lines. Fillers are a great way to add volume to lips, enhance lip shape and lift it slightly. Another popular area for fillers is the cheekbones. With age, the cheekbone goes through the loss of volume in addition to increased skin laxity and descent of facial tissue which leads to worsening wrinkles and makes us look older. Fillers not only restore volume to the cheeks but also lift the tissue and create a rejuvenated look.
Fillers are a great way to blunt creases from smile lines around the mouth or the tear trough area. Heavy eyelid bags can be disguised to achieve a refreshed appearance. To understand how fillers can address static wrinkle lines we have to explain the difference between dynamic wrinkle lines. Dynamic lines appear when muscles of the face contract to create facial expressions. Over years and with repeated motion those dynamic lines will turn into cracks in the skin and lead to static lines. A good example is the horizontal lines on the forehead from years of raising eyebrows. Dynamic lines are best addressed with neuromodulators that dampen the muscle contraction and lead to a smoother appearance. Once deep static lines have formed fillers can be used to fill in the cracks and smoothen the skin contour.
We also use hyaluronic acid fillers for our non-surgical rhinoplasty which we cover on a different site. If you are interested in fillers for the nose let us take you there.
Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if necessary, so the effect of dermal fillers can be reversed.
How long do fillers last?
Fillers last anywhere from six to twelve months though some patients report that they see effects even up to two years after. Depending on what you want to address we recommend filler injections every six to eight months to maintain the desired shape and volume.
How much do fillers cost?
Generally, prices for fillers vary on area, the type of filler, and the amount needed to achieve the desired look. We like to charge based on the area you want to address regardless of the amount to make sure you get the look you want. Below we have common prices for different areas. If you are interested in a combination of different areas or you want fillers for something else we will work out a plan that suits you.
*All filler prices are subjected to average injected volume and only change in cases where it is combined with other procedures
How does the procedure work?
Once you decide that fillers are the right procedure for you and there are no contraindications you will be seated on our comfortable reclining chair. We will mark out the area to be injected and any relevant anatomical landmarks. Next, we like applying numbing creme to make it as little uncomfortable as possible. In addition, most fillers contain some amount of numbing medication. That is also the reason why after injection with fillers the area will begin to feel numb for a few minutes. Once the skin has been numbed we inject filler using a tiny cannula or needle to place the volume precisely where we want it. Once the desired look has been achieved you are finished. No special immediate care or dressings are required.
After filler injection? Care and recovery.
There is no downtime and you can immediately return home after the procedure. You might feel a little discomfort at the injection site which will disappear within the first few hours following the procedure. Avoid strenuous activity and direct heat or sun right after the procedure.
Complications or side effects with fillers.
You should not do filler injections if you have a history of severe allergies or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
There might be minor bruising at the injection site which might be worse if you use substances that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners. Initial minor swelling after the procedure is normal as hyaluronic acid will absorb water and swell. Should you notice a decline in volume in the immediate period you might need a touch up which is part of the included in the initial treatment. Should you experience persistent redness or worsening pain at the injection site there might be a local inflammation or infection which can be treated with antibiotics.
Remember hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if necessary, so the effect of dermal fillers can be reversed.
Are fillers the right procedure for me?
In summary dermal fillers are a great way to restore or enhance volume and shape of lips, cheeks and jaw line. They are also great for disguising smile lines, lower eyelid bags or tear through deformities and static lines.
